The southbound lanes of N.C. 53 from the intersection of U.S. 258 and N.C. 24 to the intersection of Morningside Drive will be closed Saturday from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. Sunday, according to information from the city of Jacksonville. The detour was originally scheduled for Wednesday.
Traffic will be detoured around Westpark Shopping Center via Morningside Drive to allow C. M. Mitchell Construction Co. to work on an existing water main, according to a news release from J. Dwight Vernelson, with Rivers and Associates, Inc.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is advising motorists to drive with caution and to be alert while traveling through work zones, especially at night.
