Fireworks sparked a marsh fire

Fireworks sparked a marsh fire over the weekend in Atlantic Beach.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the sound-side marsh off East Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach Fire Chief Adam Snyder said.

The fire, which was apparently started by fireworks used in the area, took about 25 minutes to extinguish. No structures were threatened and no one was injured, he said.

Because the fire was in the marsh, firefighters doused the blaze from above using ladder trucks and elevated master streams of water, Snyder said.
