Griffin plans to make N.C. an anti-abortion state

Mark W. Griffin's main reason for running for the N.C. House is to make North Carolina an anti-abortion state.

"I believe choice ends when a baby begins," said Griffin, 25. "I'm running to protect life and livelihood."

Griffin, recently discharged from the U.S. Air Force, lives in Dover and operates a dental lab.

If the Republican first-time candidate unseats his opponent, long-serving Democratic Rep. and Speaker Pro Tem William L. Wainwright, he plans to work to pass an amendment to the state constitution defining conception as the beginning of life.

Griffin said such an amendment would help make abortion illegal in North Carolina.

"I believe in my heart that North Carolina is a pro-life state, and that when given the chance the people will protect the lives of unborn children," he said.

To protect people's livelihoods, Griffin wants to get rid of the state's income tax and cut government spending. He said state income taxes have been cut in Florida, Texas and Tennessee.

"If they can end state income taxes and still be economically prosperous, which they are, then I know North Carolina can do the same," he said.

Finally, Griffin wants to keep illegal immigrants away from North Carolina by removing incentives such as in-state tuition at colleges and universities and the ability for illegals to obtain state driver's licenses.

"I'm not against immigration," Griffin stated. "I'm against illegal immigration. They need to go home and come back the right way."
