Customer assaulted during gas station holdup
Havelock police are searching for two men who robbed the Handy Mart on Ketner Boulevard Thursday night.
The suspects are described as black, one about 5-foot-2 and weighing 120 to 135 pounds and the other about 5-foot-7 and weighing about 165 to 175 pounds, according to a release by the city.
Havelock police responded to the store at 11:28 p.m. Thursday. According to the release, the suspects - wearing dark cloths, masks, gloves and black bandanas - walked into the store, with one holding a handgun, and demanded money.
The clerk was forced into the restroom. A customer in the store tried to help the clerk but was assaulted and robbed, according to the release.
The customer was transported to Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern for treatment. The condition of the customer was not available.
The suspects left the store and headed behind the business. Investigators found a small amount of money that they believed the suspects dropped as they ran from the store, according to the release.
Investigators are reviewing the store video in an attempt to identify the suspects. The amount of money taken was not released.
