Masons to donate shelter to Pamlico school

Sun Journal Staff

BAYBORO — Near the playground off of the kindergarten wing of Pamlico County Primary School, students and teachers will have a new place to shelter from the sun and elements.

Members of the Masonic Lodge in Bayboro agreed to build a shelter at the school after members of Parent-Teacher Organization asked for a donations to build the small building, said Pamlico County Schools Superintendent James Coon. The shelter will give students who can’t receive large amounts of sun exposure a shaded place to sit outside in the fresh air.

“It’s something that we needed to get done, and they volunteered their time to do that,” he said.

The Pamlico County Board of Education had no problem moving forward with the project when it was discussed at a special called meeting on Wednesday, he said.

Coon said the board also discussed school-related action taken by the N.C. General Assembly at the meeting, and a new method of evaluation for superintendents that is being developed.
