Grateful Heart on Thanksgiving

Norma Wright serves food to one of the Marine volunteers at the Grateful Heart Ministries Thanksgiving meal Thursday at the Oasis Cafe in Havelock. The Marines helped the organization deliver 69 Thanksgiving meals to the elderly and shut-ins Thursday. The group also hosted families who feasted on turkey, ham and other fixings for free.

Grateful Heart served a free Thanksgiving meal from 1 to 4:30 p.m. LaTanya Roane, of Grateful Heart, said the organization fed 180 people in its second year of hosting the dinner.

"We served the community," she said. "We had some people coming in after 4:30. They had to work and just didn't have time to cook themselves."

Roane said the event would not have been possible without all the volunteers and cooks.
