Teen linked to theft ring sought
Authorities are looking for an Onslow County teen in connection to a suspected gang-related theft ring.
Michael Shorod Buggs, 17, of Brown Road, is wanted on outstanding warrants for breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm, possession of stolen goods, larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and felony larceny.
Carlton Lavon Jenkins, 17, of Myna Drive, was charged Thursday by authorities with first-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, felony conspiracy, possession of stolen goods, larceny of a firearm, breaking and entering, felony larceny and injury to personal property. His bond was set at $41,000.
Jenkins was arrested at Jacksonville High School by Jacksonville Police Department officer Jamie Garcia, the school's resource officer. Garcia arrested Jenkins for warrants taken out by Sgt. David South with the Onslow County Sheriff's Department, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Department.
South had been investigating a rash of home break-ins that began in January, the released stated. Items stolen included guns, knives, electronic devices, jewelry, vehicles and clothing. Authorities estimate the value of the stolen items at more than $50,000.
"Great investigative work, great citizens' cooperation, and great assistance from the Jacksonville Police Department broke a couple of links in a suspected gang-related crime ring," Sheriff Ed Brown said.
South obtained warrants May 7 with 18 charges for Jenkins and 35 charges for Buggs.
Buggs, a former student of Jacksonville High School, has been listed as a runaway since February, authorities said.
Crime Stoppers of Onslow County is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to Buggs' arrest.
Anyone with information about Buggs' location may call the Sheriff's Department at 910-455-3ll3, Crime Stoppers at 910-938-3273, or any law enforcement agency. Callers do not have to reveal their identities.
