Jones Onslow Electric Membership Coorporation works to repair a light pole along Piney Green Road at its intersection with Country Club. The pole was damaged Tuesday morning after being struck by this vehicle.

Two separate wrecks snarled traffic in and around Jacksonville this morning.

The first happened about 8 a.m. when a SUV heading east crossed all four lanes of N.C. 24 and flipped into a ditch, said Norman Bryson, interim emergency manager for Onslow County.

The driver - who has not been identified - was transported to Naval Hospital and airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital, according to firefighters on the scene.

Traffic was detoured for about an hour.

In the other wreck, a vehicle struck a utility pole on Country Club Road near Piney Green at around 9:45 a.m. No one was seriously injured, said Lt. Pat Traitor of the Jacksonville Police Department.

A crew is on the scene repairing the damaged pole and roads are expected to be clear by 11:30 a.m., according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
