Unemployment rates drop in Onslow, increase in Carteret

The unemployment rate increased in 74 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in October — but not in Onslow.

Onslow County was one of 19 counties where unemployment rates decreased in October. Onslow’s rate dropped from 8.3 percent in September to 8 percent in October, according to information released Wednesday by the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina.

Carteret County was one of the 74 counties that saw an increase in unemployment, moving from 7.6 percent in September up to 8.3 percent in October, according to the N.C. ESC.

The metropolitan statistical area of Jacksonville also saw an unemployment rate decrease for October, dropping from 8.3 percent in September down to 8 percent in October.
