Luau-themed event will feature free entertainment and food
SNOW HILL — Agnes Ho believes every thriving community should have library where education, information, recreation and culture come to life.
The Neuse Regional Library director is working hard to make her vision a reality in Greene County. She said plans are in the works to build a new 15,000 square-foot facility in Snow Hill.
Housed at the Greene County Office Complex, the current 4,600 square-foot library is about one-third the size of the future building. Ho said based on circulation, population and usage, the library should be substantially larger.
Patrick Deaton, a Greensboro-based architect, will be on hand Tuesday at Greene County Middle School during the Friends of the Library annual meeting to unveil the proposed floor plans for the new library.
“We are very pleased to show the public what the library will look like,” Ho said.
The event, featuring state Sen. Don Davis as the master of ceremonies, will kick off at 6 p.m.
It won’t be all business, according to library board member Peggy Greene.
“GCFL have been working hard in planning and developing an unveiling party that will feature free food and entertainment,” she said. “We are just trying to make people aware that we are trying to build a new library.”
The luau-themed event will feature musical performances by Beloved Trio, Angela Tyer and Jamison Delallo. The Born 2 Boogie Line Dancers, comedian D.L. Henry and a clogging performance by sisters Macaila and Lindsey Phillips will round out the night’s entertainment.
“It’s going to be a nice event,” Greene said.
Ho said she hopes the event will “bring interest to the public to support the library.” She said the next step is finding a location for the building.
“The (Greene) County Commissioners graciously agreed to give us a site for the future (facility),” Ho said.
Although a location has yet to be determined, Ho said the Tuesday meeting will serve also serve as a fundraising kick-off for the projected $4 million project.
“I really hope we can build a very nice library there to meet the need of Greene County residents,” she said.
