Accident victim airlifted to Pitt County Memorial

A Kinston woman was injured when her vehicle overturned this morning.

Stephanie Wiggins, 34, of Kinston, was driving her 2006 Honda Accord home from work when she fell asleep at the wheel.

"The vehicle had drifted off the road when the driver dosed off," said Trooper J.B. Locklear of the State Highway Patrol. "When she awoke, she overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to turn over."

Locklear said the accident happend at approximately 8:15 a.m. near Wheat Swamp Road in the Falling Creek area.

"The driver was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital, and from there she was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

As of noon on Friday, Wiggins was listed in critical but stable condition.
