Kinston couple busted in Jacksonville car break ins
Jacksonville police arrested a Kinston couple on a car-load of charges related to vehicle break-ins Wednesday.
Israel J. Rogers, 23, of Ferndale Lane, in Kinston, and Chanteria Jackson, 18, of 554 Briss Road in Kinston, were charged by the Jacksonville Police Department with seven counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, four counts of larceny, four counts of possession of stolen goods and conspiracy.
They are accused of taking clothing, cameras, laptops, stereos, a portable DVD player, a bag with alcohol, four-way tire irons, a floor jack and other items with a total value greater than $2,000, according to warrants.
Police received a call around 3 a.m. from someone saying they had spotted suspicious activity in the area of Arrington's Auto Repair at 2243 Lejeune Blvd.
"The citizen heard something in the parking lot and observed a white vehicle leaving the premises," said JPD Deputy Chief Paul Spring.
While responding to the incident, JPD police officer Karen Terrell noticed a vehicle that matched the description given by the caller. Terrell stopped the vehicle and saw stereo equipment in the back seat, according to a police press release.
The occupants of the vehicle - later identified as Rogers and Jackson - were detained while police officers Yadkin Crumpler and Priscilla Rivero responded to Arrington's Auto Repair. They found that seven vehicles had been broken into, Spring said.
The vehicles included a 1986 Chevy tow truck, a 1991 Cavalier, a 2005 Dodge Magnum, a 1962 Chevy Impala, and a 1992 Suburban. Evidence found in Rodger and Jackson's vehicle matched items taken from the vehicles, Spring said.
Rogers has previously been convicted in Lenoir County of larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen goods.
Roger's and Jackson's bond was set at $40,000 each.
