Friday is last day to register to vote in Nov. elections
Anyone who wants to vote in local municipal elections during November but hasn’t registered yet, must get their paperwork in today.
Elections offices in Greene, Jones and Lenoir County — like their counterparts across the state — will be accepting applications through 5 p.m. today. Applications sent by mail must be postmarked by 5 p.m.
Lenoir Elections Director Dana King hopes more people will come out Nov. 3 than did for the Kinston mayor and city council primary last month.
Just over 1,700 of the city’s registered 13,000 registered Democratic and unaffiliated voters turned out for the Sept. 15 primary.
“That wasn’t a good turnout,” King said.
Next month, voters in Kinston, La Grange and Pink Hill will choose their mayors and town commissioners for the next four years. There are more than 17,000 registered voters of all political affiliations living in all three communities.
“If they’re going to take the time to register, we would hope they’re going to take the time to vote,” King said.
Early voting statewide begins Oct. 15 and ends Oct. 31. In Lenoir County, Kinston and La Grange voters can cast ballots at the Board of Elections headquarters in Kinston — voters in Pink Hill cannot cast absentee ballots, early or otherwise, King said.
The nearly 1,800 voters living in Snow Hill, Hookerton, Walstonburg and the Maury Sanitary Land District can vote early at the Greene County Board of Elections in Snow Hill, Greene Elections Director Jane Monroe said.
Jones County Elections Director Gail Lee could not be reached for comment Thursday.
