Three hurt as SUV overturns on U.S. 70
Three people from Hobgood were injured Monday when an SUV overturned on U.S. 70 East.
They were listed in stable condition at Craven Regional Medical Center.
The three were on their way to the beach in a 1996 Ford Explorer with a utility trailer attached, according to the Highway Patrol. The SUV ran over lumber on the highway, swerved to the right of the highway came back on the roadway and overturned.
State Trooper Curtis Toler identified them as Leroy Braddy Jr., 62, his wife, Erma Braddy, 60, and their 9-year-old grandson.
Toler said emergency vehicles had a difficult time weaving through traffic to get to the accident.
"Motorists were hindering rescue workers as they did not stay in place, blocking the roadway to get a look at the accident," Toler said.
Several troopers assisted in keeping the traffic moving. "The crash came at a busy time for the highway," Toler said.
Toler said the SUV was not speeding and no charges will be filed. The accident happened at 2:30 p.m.
