Next year's calendar on the table at Onslow School Board meeting

Next year’s school calendar is expected to be decided at tonight’s Onslow County Board of Education meeting.

Brent Anderson, the director of student services will present the board with two calendars developed by a calendar committee comprised of principals, school staff, parents and community members, said Barry Collins, spokesman for Onslow County Schools.

Board members received copies of both calendars to look over at a Feb. 23 workshop meeting.

Prior to tonight’s meeting, school staff were given the opportunity to review the two calendars and to vote on which they preferred; the results of the vote will be disclosed to the board during the presentation, Collins said.

Historically the board has chosen the calendar based on the majority of votes by staff, he said.

Other agenda items at tonight’s meeting are a presentation on the Head Start plan and presentations on high school registration-controlled enrollment and graduation requirements, according to the school’s release.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Blue Creek Elementary School, located at 1260 Burgaw Hwy.
