Freedom ENC

East Carolina cornerback Emanuel Davis, who returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown during the Pirates’ 44-17 Conference USA win at Tulsa on Sunday, was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Davis, a sophomore from Manteo, had six tackles and three pass breakups. His interception return broke open a 23-17 game in the fourth quarter and sparked a run of 21 defensive points to close the game.

UAB senior quarterback Joe Webb earned his second Offensive Player of the Week honor after throwing for a career-high 378 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Blazers to a 31-21 win at Memphis.

Special teams recognition went to Southern Miss freshman returner Tracy Lampley, who had a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a win at Marshall. Lampley established a school record for kickoff return yards in a game with 211.

The defensive award was the second of Davis’ career. He was honored on Nov. 10, 2008, for his play against Marshall.
