Outdoors notebook: NC Aquarium Offers Fishing Clinic

Special to the Sun Journal

Local angling expert Bryan Goodwin will share his insights in a sport fishing clinic on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. He will focus on light tackle techniques and how to find the best local inshore fishing spots. A fishing professional for more than 25 years, Goodwin produces two fishing shows, “The Coastal Carolina Fishing Report” and “Down East Outdoors.”

The clinic, which will be from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., is free with admission to the Aquarium. Advance registration is not required. More information is available from Aquarium Educator Todd Spangler at 252-247-4003, ext. 288.

Presentation on Neuse & Trent Boating Scheduled

Traditionally there have been two ways to learn the traits and peculiarities of local waterways. One is to have someone with a lot of experience navigating in the area take you under his wing and show you the ropes. Another is trial-and-error.

In the case of the Neuse and Trent rivers, there is a third way to pick up a lot of knowledge and boaters can tap into it at no cost, in a comfortable setting. The New Bern Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a presentation on these two streams and their tributaries beginning at 7 p.m. on November 10 at the Riverbend Town Hall. Topics covered will include navigational hazards, how the wind affects water depth, law enforcement, railroad bridge closures and other matters of interest to local boaters. The two hours allotted for the presentation will include ample time for questions and answers. There is no charge for participation. Additional information including directions, if needed, is available from Steve Mullen at 252-633-9576 or Dale Petrangelo at 252-634-9083.
